Chrome plating in Singapore — flash and hard chrome-plated industrial and decorative parts by Active Treatment Pte Ltd

Exceptional hardness and wear resistance for high-load mechanical components in automotive and defence.

Chrome plating produces one of the hardest and most wear-resistant surfaces available in surface engineering. Active Treatment offers both flash chrome (thin decorative/protective layers) and hard chrome (thick functional coatings for wear and dimensional restoration).

Hard chrome (also known as industrial chrome) is deposited from a hexavalent chromium bath to thicknesses ranging from 5 µm to 500 µm+. Its extraordinary hardness (HV 900–1100) and low coefficient of friction make it indispensable for hydraulic cylinders, piston rods, dies, and press components.

We also perform dimensional restoration on worn parts — building up undersized shafts and bores to original dimensions — saving clients significant replacement costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between flash chrome and hard chrome?

Flash chrome (0.1–0.5 µm) is used for decorative purposes and mild corrosion protection. Hard chrome (5–500+ µm) is a functional engineering coating applied for wear resistance, low friction, and dimensional restoration.

Can hard chrome be applied to stainless steel?

Yes, though stainless requires a special activation (Wood's nickel strike) before chroming to ensure adhesion. Please specify the grade when ordering.

Is hard chrome being phased out due to environmental regulations?

Hexavalent chromium is regulated under REACH and RoHS. While it remains in use for specific high-performance applications, we can discuss HVOF tungsten carbide or electroless nickel alternatives for clients requiring RoHS-compliant solutions.

Can you restore an undersized shaft with hard chrome?

Yes. This is one of the most common uses of hard chrome. We can build up 50–500+ µm per side, then grind to your specified diameter. Please provide the drawing with final dimensions.

What is the typical lead time for hard chrome plating?

Standard lead time is 5–7 working days including pre-plate grinding and post-plate grinding if required. Express service is available for critical components.
